Publication Question

Writing in general and suggestions on writing for Shroud.

Publication Question

Postby Natalie L. Sin on Mon Jul 07, 2008 6:50 pm

Has anyone ever heard of 23 House Publishing? They are putting out an anthology called "Nights of Blood II" that I found on Ralan, but I couldn't find them anywhere else. They look fun but since there's so little information I wanted to check with other writers to see what their opinion is. I don't have a bad feeling about them, it's more that my curiosity has been peaked.

I've never heard of them either. But here is their site I found:
www.23house.com.

Hit the call for submissions link up top and
check out more info about the anthology. ;)

Maybe someone else will know more about them in general.

I personally stick to the credo that you should never give your hard-fought work away for free. Considering this antho is asking for "the best of the best" you'd think they could afford to pay their contributors with more than just a single copy.

My twin coppers.

Agreed. This is something I've just started adhering to myself, which of course means more rejections, but more learning, too.

Tom, Kevin, Lincoln, and Nathaniel are all right. If this antho expects top stories then they can expect to pay for these top stories.
I've sold stories. And I've given a few away. But as Kevin said above, it's a learning process submitting to paid-only pubs. But a process we're all willing to go through to get to a certain place as a writer. I know I'm still learning.

But we're fortunate to have places such as Shroud's forums and even more fortunate to have writers such as Tom, Kevin, Lincoln, and Nathaniel to give us their two cents (or twin coppers as Tom calls it). Having the opinions of writers such as themselves and the others on this site are quite valuable.

Well, that's my double coin. :)
Lincoln. Nice article on your site about this subject.

Wild, dark times are rumbling toward us, & the prophet who wishes to write a new apocalypse will have to invent entirely new beasts; beasts so terrible that the ancient animal symbols of St. John will seem like cooing doves & cupids in comparison.
