The Shroud Underground

The wonderful and supportive Sheldon S. Higdon gave me this idea. He emailed me to let me know that he was calling his local B&N to find out if Shroud were on the shelves yet.

WHO are a better marketeer of a magazine than the people that actually sell them? What if we began a calling campaign to all of the stores that carry Shroud and began asking them if they had Shroud Magazine in stock?

Do you think that it would at the very least create a bit of name recognition?

ME TOO!

So here's the contest:

1. Go to the UNABRIDGED STORE LIST posted here:

2. Find the store or stores closest to you (does NOT have to be B&N) and obtain their telephone number.

3. Call the store directly and simply ask:

"Do you have any copies of Shroud Magazine in stock?"

If "yes" then respond with something to the effect of: "Oh excellent, thank you for the information,"

If "no" then respond with "Oh that's too bad. Do you know when you will have issues of Shroud Magazine in stock?" etc.

4. THEN respond to this post with a log of the date and time and store that you called.

5. This is the honor system.

6. The first place prize will be a LIFETIME SUBSCRIPTION to Shroud Magazine and a full set of available novellas;

Second Prize will be a FULL SET of novellas;

Third Prize will be any novella of your choice;

ALL participants that log in will get a 25% coupon off of anything in the Shroud store.

Remember, OVERLAP is good!

This could really help Shroud get sold. Thank you so much for the help!

I was in Memphis, Tn this past weekend, went to Davis Kidd and Borders Book Store (they did not have it either, but I thought I'd drop the name anyways <smile> )

I'll make a daily list and give all the stores on my list a call at exactly the same time each day...

The funny part, the B&N over on McCain now knows me as "The Shroud Guy" because I go in there at least twice a week asking for it..

And as of today it's still not listed in their system. It's not even listed yet on their website when you do a search under Magazines

Those who go somewhere to pick up a copy of Shroud... Take a picture of it on the shelves in-store! Would be neat to see for those of us who live way too far away from anywhere that will carry it (though I may start pestering the B&N about 45 minutes north of me for it).

I called today June 3rd at 12:41 the Borders store in Arborland Ann Arbor MI. They told me that they did not carry it.

I tried B&N 2052 in Manchester, NH at 4:20 this afternoon. No luck yet and the lady said it wasn't in their database...Maybe tomorrow...

Nice job on that... our home state! They will be arriving tomorrow so hopefully they will actually make it into the database once they are scanned in.

Here in Pittsburgh I have only two stores that will be carrying Shroud on their shelves.

So everyday I play tag with their staff.

At 10 am I call store number #2233 (301 South Hills Village location) and ask if Shroud is on their shelf this morning, which they usually reply: "No." and "We don't have that in our system."

BUT today they have it in their system!!!! It's not on the shelf but it's in their f*#king system!!!!

Then roughly 10:15 am I call store number: #2203 (Monroeville, PA 145 Mall Circle Dr. # 700). Yes! THE Monroeville Mall!!

Shroud is ON the fucking shelf!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In Monroeville! And it makes perfect sense since my story is a zombie story and the lead character is a zombie named Munro!

So it should be on the shelf at the other location here in Pgh anyday now!

I called two stores at a little before 2:30 today.

Boston, the (B&N at 800 Boylston St.) was a no, but the guy said they are listed to be getting it tomorrow, he said at the latest next week.

Even though I'm currently up at school I called my local one on Long Island NY (the Bayshore store).

It sounded hopeful because the girl was gone FOREVER to look for it, but alas no. She told me to check back and that it is "in their system" but she has no way of knowing when it will be in (which is strange because the Boston guy gave me an exact day it was supposed to hit the shelves, different computer systems maybe?).

At least she knows what it is, for next time.




BTW, the cover for #7 looks fan*(#$@$^@%#%&*ing-tastic. I'm pumped.
