It seems 2008 was my year to be a runner-up. My tale "Offerings" from issue #4 of Shroud--initially an honorable mention in that issue's flash fiction contest--is now also an honorable mention for the Micro Award, that annual prize for flash fiction administered by the stalwart Robert Laughlin. If you haven't heard of it, check out this year's results, Mr. Laughlin's comments, and the rules for the 2009 version of the award here.
N.B. Though the public isn't privy to any of the voting tallies, the presence of the story on the nominees' list means that one of the judges put it in his top three--so here's a competition that's at least willing to consider the "genre" needles that it pulls from the "literary" haystack.
Cheers,
Desmond Warzel
