Nicole Cushing here.

Short story "An Alibi Never Hurts" was published in the 2004 Undaunted Press anthology VICIOUS SHIVERS (where it shared space next to work by Kealan Patrick Burke and Charlee Jacob, among many others).

My short story "Scabby Nipples and Sharp Teeth" was accepted for the long-in-the-works IN LAYMON'S TERMS anthology from Cemetery Dance.

I have taken the last four or five years off from actively seeking publication (long story), but am now in a position where I feel ready, and am writing more than I have in a long, long time. It feels awesome.

Hi, everyone.

My name is John Connors. I live just outside of Pittsburgh in North Versailles, which is only a zombie lurch away from the Monroeville Mall. I am 27 years old and recently married.

After a stint at the Art Institute and a slew of odd jobs, I went to work for my older brother's landscaping business and have been working for him for six years now. But currently, I am unable to work or walk. I am laid up for several months with my right foot in a heavy, black boot, recovering from its grisly encounter with the razor-sharp, grinding blade of a circular saw...

Don't ask.

I began writing and submitting fiction for publication in early 2007. My story, "Along Coal Hollow Road" was chosen for the Northern Haunts anthology. It will be the first time that I get to see my words in actual print on actual paper, and it is very thrilling. Thanks again, Tim!

Well, that's the rundown on me. I look forward to being a part of this community, and I hope that I could add to the conversations.

Now, back to the painkillers and my story.

See ya.

Circular saw on your foot? You must've not been wearing protective eyewear.

Tom Erb from lovely upstate NY here!

Postby taerb on Sat Oct 04, 2008 12:20 pm

Greetings Tim and everyone!
Tim, I met you and the other fellas at Context at your most wonderful suite or should I say sweet party. You guys put on one helluva shindig. Thanks kindly for the Jameson and vodka shots. My live and pounding head thank you..
I spoke to you briefly about submitting some writing to Shroud as well as some artwork. I am working hard and you will be receiving something very soon.
Anyway, here is a bit about me:
I am Thomas A. Erb and I just turned 41 in August and I live in upstate New York, roughly between Rochester and Syracuse. Lovely area, but you must enjoy snow and farms with a shit load of cows and fields of various crops. I live out in the sticks with my lovely wife of 16 years, my elderly father (Bob) and my low self-esteem filled and neurotic yellow lab Rash and a bitchy, stubborn as a mule chow mix Duchess.
I am an art teacher by trade. I am unemployed at this time and it works out ok because my father is 78 and on oxygen and needs someone around to take care of him and help him out. I have worked a myriad of jobs ranging from printer, screen printer, security guard; parts deliver driver, picture framer and an art store and warehouse manager. All good fun, truth be told.
I am an illustrator of fantasy, horror and anything else that might pay the bills. I have started writing seriously and I am almost finished with my first novel. I have a dozen short stories in the works and my goal is to be published this upcoming year. I also have a graphic novel in the works and hope to get to that some time.
Music is a huge part of my life as well. I am an old metal head from back in the day. 80’ metal rules! Maiden, Priest, Queensryche, Kix, Rush, the list goes on and on. Throw in some other styles, Allman Brothers, Govt Mule, The Beatles, never enough time to listen to all the great sounds out there.
I also love to write and play music. I have been in many bands in the area. None of which ever went anywhere. I still love to get behind my drum kit and get my ya ya’s out. Good fun indeed.
I love film. All genres, but of course anything zombie is preferred.
I of course love to read. I am new to horror believe it or not. I can thank Brian Keene for that. The man is amazing. If you haven’t read GHOUL, do it NOW.
Well, that’s me in a nut shell. I am a humble portly beer drinking, Irishmen who dreams of writing and creating art for folks that will really dig what he is trying to say.
Thanks so much and I look forward getting to know everyone on this forum and working with the great folks at SHROUD!

Hope I'm not bringing up a dead thread here..

I've been searching for Shroud Magazine in my local bookstore for a few months now. Sadly, it's not currently being carried. I'm seriously looking into getting the lifetime subscription.

However, I wanted to introduce myself. This seemed the most appropriate location to do that.

My name is Brian Hardin II. I've got an unofficial nickname, Flisk. Not a single person in the real world calls me that. I've used it on countless online RPG games, as well as in many a AD&D campaign. It dates back to the world of Dragon Quest for the original Nintendo. It seemed appropriate to use here on these forums as well.

To complete my introduction, I own and operate a few different websites, one devoted to games (sadly I've let this one rot by the side of the road as of late), one is devoted to something I'm good at (I make signs and promotional products), and one that started out as a hobby but has grown momentum to now pass off as a legitimate business (it's about zombies).

I don't want to go out of my way to say the names of those websites, mainly because I'm not here to promote myself, but to be a part of the community and share the passion for horror.

I also work two jobs, one full time and one part time.

I'm rambling now so I'll spare the details of those two jobs (unless you just really gotta know).

I write. Duh. That's what brought me here <smile>.

I certainly look forward to being a part of the Shroud community!

Stay Scary!

I've already got my first few posts out of the way, but I neglected my introduction--Alas, here it is:

I'm a 21 year old college student working towards a creative writing degree, with a minor in cultural anthropology. I'm in love with the social sciences.

I've always loved reading. My parents never tried to force books on me...which is probably the reason I liked them so much growing up.

After high school, my free time was spent teaching myself every possible musical instrument I could get my hands on. Organ, Piano, Guitar, Didge, Shakuhachi, Bass, and an array of percussion. I studied music on my own and in school for about three years. My goal was to become a video game and film music composer.

I started writing in my free time after I left high school, in the time I wasn't spending on music. An array of painful main stream stories. Like music, you've got to write A LOT of shit before anything wroth while starts coming out (I don’t think I’ll ever lose that feeling…).

About six months ago, I decided to get serious about reading and writing--which didn't really change much other than me writing more and reading more.

So now here I am, still at the beginning of my journey. I'm a big forum fan--a good healthy forum can be an amazing outlet for ideas and encouragement. I hope to contribute what I can to these forums during my stay. Look forward to the next magazine, and reading some more cool stories!

Flisk/Brian,

Sorry for the delay in responding. This post slipped past me. Welcome! Please go ahead and share your sites with us? I know I am curious. Plus, I may eventually have some business for your promotional products' venture.

Welcome and thank you for the support!

Tim

Todd, I seriously considered cultural anthropology as a major. Fascinating stuff and I am sure it will come in useful for this genre. Welcome to the Shroud Underground. If you, or anyone else, needs anything please let me know.

Tim

Thank you Tim!

My sites are:

www.GameMasters.com (I've actually beefed this one up quite a bit since my above post).

www.ZombieMall.com - this site is a blast to run. It serves 2 functions. The 1st, because I have a business license and am able to buy cool stuff wholesale, I can then sell that cool stuff on the site. Obviously, it's mostly horror related stuff. In this respect ZM is an extension of GameMasters. Gamers usually do have a darker side...
The 2nd function is to promote writer, actors, artists, musicians, directors, etc. of the horror genre. Now, this is specifically for the lesser known guys and NOT the main streamers. Seriously, I love Stephen King, but does he really need another site out there trying to chat up his latest book? Nah. Instead I find people like Michael Arnzen, and Jeff Mariotte, and Szymon Kudranski. This is all done via our ZBlog (Zombie Blog).

my last site; www.CheetahSigns.com is my main bread and butter. I make signs and promotional products. Need 5,000 pens with your business name on it? Yeah, I can do that. Need a banner to advertise a sale? Yeah, I do that too. The cool part is, from time to time I cross promote my businesses. Example, I've got a Zombie Crossing sign on ZombieMall, and it's the heavy duty stuff too. 18 guage aluminum (same gauge as used on the highway signs) along with highway grade reflective vinyl for the background. I'm also working on some license plates with zombies on, will say something to the effect, "get out of my way or I'll eat your brain" something like that.

At any rate, thanks Tim for letting me plug myself.
