I'm starting to ache for this baby. I just got my hard cover of the Help Antho and it looks like my 8 Year old did the layout. I know it's for charity, but it doesn't cost money to make sure the stories start on the right place on the page or that you don;t start a new story on the same page as one ends unless you do it for everyone. I want to show my wife and kids, but I'm embarrassed.

TIm, you put out such high quality stuff, perhaps I'm just spoiled. Please let me know when Abominations will be shipped, I need it bad, thanks.

Yeah, we've been discussing the Help antho over at the HWA boards. It's a sad state of affairs.

But the good news is that I received the Abom proof from the printer today and it looks beautiful. I am just going to check it for errors/typos again, and pass it over to my editor to do the same and then it will ship!

I didn't even submit to HELP and the final product has me madder than a rat in a tin shithouse! As if our genre didn't have enough problems already.

That's sad to hear. I heard about it too late to submit, and then I heard a lot of boards and blogs slamming it, but thought to myself, "C'mon, now...no need to bash...."

Too bad. I've done stuff through Lulu with my school, (poetry anthologies for the kids), it's really not hard at all to make something look presentable, even nice. There's some headaches with conversion if you just upload straight Word to the system, (mucks with fonts and such), but if you convert the document to .pdf beforehand with all the fonts embedded and all that, it's pretty clean.

Kevin you are right. While I have never used Lulu, I believe the fault here lies with the publisher, not the printer. Very little effort was put in.

That's pretty heartbreaking. I heard a lot of writers who were very excited about getting to help out with said anthology, and when the product instantly disappoints the people who threw stories into it...just wow, that's painful just to hear about.
